Spanish police have arrested a fan for making racist gestures towards Kylian Mbappé, the forward for Spanish club Real Madrid.The series of racist incidents continues in football stadiums generally, and in Spain specifically over the past few years, with Real Oviedo being the latest installment in this ongoing issue.The Real Oviedo fan was arrested after engaging in racist behavior against Kylian Mbappé during the match between the two teams in the second round of the Spanish La Liga.Fan Arrested Over Kylian Mbappé IncidentAccording to Spanish newspaper “Marca”, the National Police arrested a Real Oviedo fan for making racist gestures and emitting sounds from the stands of the Carlos Tartiere stadium during the match on August 24th.This was stated in a report by Asturias police on Wednesday morning, identifying the fan who was arrested on charges of committing a crime against moral integrity, hatred, after being identified through the analysis of images and video footage.The fan made racist gestures and ape-like noises in the 37th minute when Kylian Mbappé was celebrating Real Madrid's first goal.La Liga had revealed the incident after the match, before the fan was arrested on Wednesday morning.The fan, whose identity has not been disclosed, appeared before the court and faces fines ranging from 60,000 euros to 650,000 euros, in addition to a ban from entering football stadiums.The High Court of Asturias added that the investigation has been referred to the Public Prosecutor's Office, mandated for criminal protection of equality and against discrimination and racism, which could increase the penalty to imprisonment for up to three years.
