Dembele received many congratulatory messages after winning the Ballon d'Or, most notably a congratulation from his compatriot Kylian Mbappe, Real Madrid star, in addition to other messages from his teammates in the national team and club.

Dembele said, in a statement highlighted by French newspaper L'Équipe from an interview with "France Football" magazine: "Messi sent me a congratulatory message right after I won the Ballon d'Or".
