The Senegalese Football Federation announced that it reviewed today the decision of the Appeals Committee of the Confederation of African Football, related to the final confrontation of the 2025 African Cup of Nations, which brought together the Senegal national team and its Moroccan counterpart.
The Federation explained that the Appeals Committee decided to accept the appeal submitted by the Moroccan Federation, while acknowledging its validity, which resulted in canceling the ruling previously issued by the Disciplinary Committee, due to failure to respect the right of the appellant party to be heard during the stage procedures. The committee stated in its decision that the actions of the Senegalese team fall within the provisions of Articles 82 and 84 of the tournament regulations, concluding that the Senegalese Federation violated Article 82, which necessitated the team being considered the loser of the match by withdrawing, while adopting Morocco’s victory with a score of 3-0 in accordance with Article 84.
In an official reaction, the Senegalese Federation expressed its strong denunciation of this decision, considering it unfair and a precedent. It is unacceptable, as it indicated that it harms the image of African football.
The federation confirmed its intention to take urgent legal steps, by heading to the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne (TAS), in defense of its rights and to protect the interests of Senegalese football.
It concluded its statement by emphasizing its adherence to the values of integrity and sporting justice, with an emphasis on continuing to inform public opinion of all developments related to the case.
