The Blues hold on to their captain.. a new contract for Reece James until 2032
Chelsea have officially announced that their first-team captain Reece James has signed a new long-term contract that will keep him at the club until 2032.
A journey that started in the academy
According to the club’s official statement, James joined Chelsea’s academy at the age of six and progressed through the youth ranks before becoming one of the key players in the first team.
During his time with the club, the English full-back has made more than 200 appearances and helped the team win several major trophies, including the UEFA Champions League and the FIFA Club World Cup twice.
He has also captained the team on more than 50 occasions.
James expresses his happiness
Speaking to the club’s official website, James said:
“I’m extremely happy to sign a new contract. Chelsea means a lot to me, and I truly believe we have everything needed to build on our past successes.”
A career full of achievements
Earlier in his career, James had a successful loan spell at Wigan Athletic before returning to become a regular starter for Chelsea.
He has also scored important goals in competitions such as the EFL Cup and the UEFA Champions League, while being part of the squad that won the Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup, and the FIFA Club World Cup in 2021.
Before the 2023/2024 season, he was appointed captain of the first team and has since led Chelsea in numerous matches while continuing to deliver strong performances this season.
