Camp Nou expands further… FC Barcelona increases stadium capacity ahead of the clash with Sevilla FC.
Reports in Spain revealed that FC Barcelona has officially obtained the 1C license from the Barcelona City Council, allowing the club to open the first and second tiers of the Gol Nord stand at Spotify Camp Nou.
According to the Spanish newspaper Sport, the new authorization will take effect during Barcelona’s upcoming match against Sevilla FC on Sunday, March 15.
With this approval, the stadium’s capacity will increase significantly, rising from 45,401 seats to 62,657 spectators.
Barcelona reportedly had to meet several requirements imposed by the city authorities, particularly regarding safety standards and access to the new stands, even though the construction work in those sections had already been completed.
Less than two weeks ago, the club began registering members interested in obtaining subscriptions for the newly available seats, which amount to approximately 14,000 additional places. This initiative highlights the central role of club members in Barcelona’s ownership model.
The new permit also allows the reopening of the supporters’ stand, although the club has not yet finalized its exact location inside the stadium.
Additionally, Barcelona must determine how to distribute the seats among members who applied for them. Since 14,500 requests were submitted for only 14,000 available seats, a lottery system will be used to decide the beneficiaries.
The development comes at a crucial moment for the club, as it coincides with the upcoming Barcelona presidential elections, allowing more members to attend the stadium and participate in the voting process.
The move is expected to further strengthen the club’s fan engagement, especially as Barcelona has won all eleven matches played at Camp Nou since returning to the stadium on November 22, 2025.
