The coach who made history departs… Regragui officially leaves the Morocco national team
Press reports have revealed details about the next step in the career of Moroccan coach Walid Regragui following the end of his tenure with the Morocco national football team after losing the final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations against the Senegal national football team.
The decision to step down came in fulfillment of a previous promise made by Regragui, who had stated he would resign if he failed to win a major title with the Atlas Lions. As a result, the Royal Moroccan Football Federation officially accepted his resignation.
This decision brings an important chapter to an end for Morocco under Regragui’s leadership, highlighted by the historic achievement during the 2022 FIFA World Cup, where the team delivered a remarkable performance that captured global attention.
According to the French outlet Foot Mercato, the Moroccan coach is not planning to take charge of another national team for the time being, preferring instead to return to club management.
Sources indicate that Regragui has already entered discussions with clubs competing in the Premier League and La Liga, reflecting his ambition to take on a new European challenge.
Meanwhile, the Moroccan coach reportedly rejected several offers from clubs in the Saudi Pro League, opting instead for a sporting project within Europe.
The Royal Moroccan Football Federation is also expected to hold a special ceremony tonight to honor Regragui for his achievements with the national team, before the anticipated announcement of Mohamed Ouahbi as his successor.
