City overcome Newcastle with a three-goal victory and set up a final clash with Arsenal
Manchester City secured their place in the final of the EFL Cup after defeating Newcastle United 3-1 in the second leg of the semi-final, in a match played at the Etihad Stadium.
The first-leg encounter had already ended in City’s favor, as they claimed a 2-0 victory at St James’ Park, confirming their superiority over the two legs.
With this result, Manchester City will face Arsenal in the final, scheduled to take place on March 22 at the iconic Wembley Stadium.
Omar Marmoush scored twice for City in the 7th and 29th minutes, before Tijjani Reijnders added the third goal in the 32nd minute, giving the hosts a comfortable advantage before the break.
In the second half, Newcastle United pulled one goal back through Anthony Elanga in the 62nd minute, but it was not enough to prevent City from booking their place in the final.
