Laporta officially resigns and opens the door to elections at Barcelona

FC Barcelona officially announced on Monday the resignation of current president Joan Laporta, along with several board members, in order to run in the upcoming club elections scheduled for March 15, 2026, in accordance with Article 42 of the club’s statutes, as stated in the official club announcement.The resignations include Vice President for Institutional Affairs Elena Fort, Vice President for Social Affairs Antonio Escudero, as well as board members Ferran Olivé, Josep Maria Abert, Xavi Barbany, Miquel Camps, Aureli Mas, Xavi Puig, and Joan Soler, all stepping down to participate in the electoral process.Following these resignations, the club confirmed that the Board of Directors will continue managing club affairs until the end of the current term on June 30, 2026, through an interim structure led by Rafael Yuste as president, Josep Cubells as vice president, and Alfons Castro as treasurer, alongside Josep Ignasi Macià, Ángel Riudalbas, Joan Soler Sust, and Sisco Pujol.Barcelona also stated that the interim board has already held its official meeting according to the scheduled agenda, ensuring the continuity of administrative operations until the end of the term.
